Dr. Oliver Scherf-Clavel received the "Quality of Medicines Award"

At this year’s annual meeting of the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG) the „Preis zur Förderung der Arzneimittelqualität“ was awarded for the first time. This prize is a joint award by the Frankfurt Foundation Quality of Medicines (FFQM) and the DPhG.

The award winner is junior professor Dr. Oliver Scherf-Clavel, Würzburg, who was honored for his work on contaminations of medicinal products containing valsartan and other sartans.

Oliver Scherf-Clavel is junior professor for clinical pharmacy at the Institute for Pharmacy and Food Chemistry of the Julius-Maximilians University of Würzburg. He completed his doctoral thesis with the title „Impurity Profiling of Challenging Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients without Chromophore“ in the group of Prof. Ulrike Holzgrabe. Following his scientific interest in detecting quality deficiencies of medicinal products, such as impurities and contaminations, he conducted postdoctoral studies with Prof. Fritz Sörgel at the Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research (IBMP) in Nürnberg / Heroldsberg. Results of his research activities have been published in numerous scientific papers.

Due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, this year’s annual conference of the DPhG and thus, also the award ceremony could only be organized virtually. If the pandemic situation allows, the award winner will receive his certificate in person later this year at a ceremony held by our foundation with further honours in Frankfurt.
